Samsung boss responds to bribery probe: “I am responsible”

Filed under:

Lee Kun-hee, Samsung’s 66 year old chairman and son of the company’s founder, made a potentially damning announcement over the weekend. Following 11 hours of interrogation by prosecutors into allegations of bribery and maintaining a slush fund (among other improprieties), Lee said, “This is all due to my carelessness. I am responsible for everything and must take responsibility.” We won’t know for sure until the investigation is complete. However, the statement is less likely an admission of guilt than it is an attempt to appease the people of South Korea where the Samsung “chaebol” is more than just a brand, it’s a national symbol of pride… at least it was.

Thin is in: LG shares a glimpse of its 5 megapixel hottie phone

Filed under:

Great news, Mr. and Mrs. Tighty Pants: carrying five megapixels in your pocket is about to become a little less obvious! The latest member of LG’s storied Black Label line — other alumni being the Chocolate and the Shine — is starting to break cover, and for what the slider might lack in sheer visual distinction, it makes up in technical prowess. The as-yet-unnamed slider promises to be the thinnest 5 megapixel cameraphone in the world when it launches, featuring a reinforced glass touchscreen up front (just a little Glimmer-esque, if you ask us) and a shell constructed from carbon fiber. Other than that, LG’s being a little stingy with details at this point, saying that it’ll unveil the handset’s name later this month — hopefully along with pricing and a full spec sheet. The phone will hit Europe first with a number of other launches across the globe thereafter, finally hitting LG’s own South Korea in the second half.

Everex’s new MyMiniPC: $500 and gOS-powered

Filed under:

Everex is popping off a new gOS powered box tonight, given the unfortunate monicker of MyMiniPC. While $500 is way more than enough to get you started on a low-end Windows box (and even most of the way there toward a Mac mini), the MyMiniPC comes equipped with a 1.86GHz Pentium T2130 and 512MB RAM running gOS “Space”, a 120GB drive, DVD±RW, firewire, four USB 2.0 ports, DVI and S-Video out gigabit Ethernet, media reader, and standard audio ins/outs. Everex is all playing up the MySpace integration and what not, as well as the whole space theme — apparently including an avatar-based help experience called “Dave”. So, what, does that make us all HALs? Too meta, Everex. Larger interface shot after the break.

Egoman offers up MP810RSTD-43 portable media player

Last we heard from Egoman Technology, it was taking notes from Samsung in order to craft an eerily similar PMP of its own. The MP810RSTD-43, however, actually doesn’t look half bad on paper. This widescreen player sports a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 resolution touchscreen, handles RMVB, MP3, WMA, WAV, APC, FLAC, JPG, BMP and GIF file formats and FM radio signals; you’ll also find up to 8GB of internal memory and a voice recorder. Per usual, this one touts text viewing, TV output, USB 2.0 connectivity and a built-in equalizer to treat your ears the way they deserve to be treated. Not a clue on pricing here, but if you’re keen on ordering boatloads of Chinese electronics rather than just one or two, we’re sure it would be willing to talk.

Van Der Led’s Jisus laptop is the answer to your prayers

Filed under:

The Jisus laptop? We’re asking ourselves the same questions you are. We’ve never heard of Van Der Led, and we’ve certainly never heard of the Jisus — but boy are we intrigued. Apparently, the multi-colored (and multi-graphic’d) little guys will feature a 800 x 480, 8.9-inch LCD display, a 1GHz Loongson CPU (???), 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, 802.11b/g, stereo speakers, and a whole slew of familiar ports. The Eee-wannabe will apparently come with Ubuntu pre-installed (though frankly it’s unclear), and will be retailing for €299 when it hits the streets (the European streets, that is) on April 25th. Check the video after the break to see odd, ominously silent images of the device, accompanied by fascinating data.

[Thanks, Gydo]

T3 Exclusive LG’s next Black Label handset

The Chocolate was delicious, and the Shine dazzled us. Now LG is launching a similar attack on our senses with the next in its classy Black Label series.

So what’s new? Well, it promises to be the world’s slimmest 5-megapixel camera phone. To beat the Samsung G600, that means it’ll have to be thinner than 14.9mm.

Damn, that’s seriously slim.

Of course this being the Black Label it also looks absolutely gorgeous, with carbon fibre and tempered glass styling. It resembles the Chocolate more than the Shine, with no scroll wheel.

Natch, touchscreen controls are here as standard.

Stay tuned for our exclusive hands-on soon. Until then, pore over our image gallery and let us know your thoughts on the Chocolate’s younger sexier relative.
