Anorexic TV displays notwithstanding, it seems the big buzz tech for 2008 is 3D TV, or variations on the theme at least. Speaking of which (nice link huh?), we're getting news of the first Multi-Layer Displays about to hit the commercial market courtesy of PureDepth and Samsung.
MLD uses two or more layers of LCD panels over a singular backlight source to create a visual depth to images played through them -- a kind of virtual 3D without the need for those rubbish specs. The PureDepth Samsung MLD LCD collaboration is expected to be a 46-incher, but little more is known about it at the mo.
What we do know is that Samsung has signed up to manufacture MLD orientated mobile handsets while Sanyo will be looking after mobiles, gaming solutions and automotive stuff like GPS. Cool!
