D-Box interactive chair

Team T3.com has just eased out of a leather recliner having treated ourselves to a little mid-avo movie action. And while the cynical amongst you will be thinking 'no change there then', you'll be surprised to hear it was all in the name of work, honest.

The D-Box Screening Room Series is the latest technology to tackle the concept of feeling as well as seeing and hearing the film you're watching. Compatible with specially coded Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, there are currently 750 films available, around 30 of which are big name Disney titles like Pirates of the Caribbean and, the Blu-ray disc we tried out, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (out 2 June).

The tech is pretty clever, with accentuators under the chair hooked up to the home ent system that "pitch, roll and heave" you all over the place in perfect sync with the on-screen action. The system can handle up to 120 movements per frame, which brings a whole new level of intensity to proceedings. The abrupt end to the car chase in National Treasure had us reaching for the neck brace amid claims of whiplash -- this thing really works. Watching Titanic will likely have you seasick within minutes.

Good news too if you've just splashed out on a shiny new sofa, as the tech can be retro-fitted with the Motion Platform Series to your own seating with exactly the same effect.

The success of the chair is clearly dependent on what you're watching, but with action and high-octane stuff, it's a blast. It'll be interesting to see how it handles fruitier film scenes too -- we're thinking the butter scene in Last Tango in Paris? Messy.

Available in the UK now through high-end installer modus vivendi, best contact them to ask how much.
