The week in tech

If the 3G iPhone rumours were a fire, by now it'd be a towering inferno, with firemen hosing it down and people fleeing in fear. Thankfully they're not a fire. But that hasn't stopped them getting massive. Both the 8 and 16GB models disappeared from Apple's UK and US websites, Stateside operator AT&T is prepping an iPhone Black, and iPhone sales have been limited to one per person. Will it ever come out? Maybe Jobs is playing a big joke on us all. Have a guess when it'll first go on sale anywhere in the world, and you could win one courtesy of T3.com. You know it makes sense.

There's a new Blackberry in town, and it looks pretty awesome. Named the Bold, it holds Wi-Fi, HSDPA, geotagging, and basically everything a businessman needs apart from a wrap of cocaine and a bad tie.

Will Guitar Hero 4 let you make your own songs? That's the rumour surfacing on the web. And once you've recorded your power ballad, you'll be able to share it with strangers online. Expect it in winter, just in time for your shot at the Christmas number one.

Microsoft is extending its reach from this planet to outer space, courtesy of its Final Frontier. Check the site, and you can zoom around intergalactic-stylee. Wicked.

The PS2 is still outselling the PS3. Still. This is like a toddler being constantly upstaged by his more popular older brother. Kind of. The PS3 sold 9 million in 2007, but was whooped by the PS2's 13 million. Crikey. Expect that to change with the demise of HD-DVD and now GTA IV's out, though.

Speaking of gaming, is there a new Xbox on the horizon? Online dwellers seem to think so. Named the 540, it'll be more powerful and slimmer than the 360. Great. But why not call it the 1080 or some such? 540 isn't a significant number in any way.

And you can buy Xbox trousers to go with your new console. Nice.
