Would you look at that: a thick slab of iPhone meat in a Sony Ericsson and HTC sandwich. The iPhone’s big screen is nice and all but the device is starting to look a bit portly given that the Xperia X1 sports a QWERTY with chewy HSDPA data, the latter shared with the Raphael Touch Diamond. Tasty, regardless.
Update: Er, that’s not the HTC Raphael, it’s their Touch Diamond.

So, which was the more vintage period for tech: the 70s or 80s? Andrews reckons the 80s. “Computers were coming into vogue, and cars were more advanced,” he says. “Not that I could afford them.”
And he used a tape-loaded computer in his first job. “We just used it for stock control. I’ve an HP today. It’s like lightning compared to it. It’s the greatest and worst invention ever. No matter how fast they are, they’re never fast enough.” You’re telling us.
Working in a Vauxhall dealership, it’s not surprising Andrews grew up idolising the cars of the era. “I loved the Vauxhall Chevette, and the Audi Quattro blasted everything away. Now I get paid to drive them - it’s like a childhood dream come true.”
And while the cars may be timeless, he thinks not everything from the decade has retro chic. “I think the fashions should stay in 80s. Roll necks aren’t very flattering when you’re a gentleman of a certain age.”

Thinking of a new Eee PC or maybe Wind laptop? Hold up, Dell’s about to loose this baby on the sub-$500 mini-laptop world. All we’ve got are these pictures for now but the specs can’t be far behind. Even the name “mini-Inspiron” comes from the file name of the Dell-supplied pics. However, if what we’ve
already heard holds up, then we’re looking at 8.9-inches dolled up in a sub-$500 price tag with a choice of both Windows XP Home or Ubuntu Linux, 8-in-1 card reader, integrated webcam, direct media playback buttons, and a “host of wireless access options.” Expect more next week as the Computex show kicks off.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you fashion yourself an amateur
MythBuster, you may do well to add Comfile’s new rugged Windows CE-based CuWIN3500 touchscreen controller to your homebrew arsenal, which will let you control an array of sensors, motors or just about anything else you can plug into it. Up front and center on this one is a 7-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, which gets backed up by a 32bit ARM9 266MHz processor, 64MB of SDRAM, 64MB NAND Flash, built-in Ethernet, and an SD card slot for further expansion. If that sounds like the piece of kit you’ve been waiting for, you can get your hands on one of these right now for $600.

We’ve seen plenty of gear co-branded by high-end automakers, but only Ducati’s really putting out bike-themed gear, and the latest gadget to get dressed up in cycle gear is the Sony Ericsson Z770 flip phone. Due out in Italy this June, the Ducati Z770 isn’t anything particularly special apart from that paint job and a special Ducati-themed HBH DS-220 headset, but if you’re into tri-band GSM non-smartphones with slightly better browsers, it’s not a bad piece of kit. Just remember to take your keys out of your bike when you wander off chatting away, alright?
