HTC’s Dream a super skinny QWERTY bananaphone?

Filed under:

Yesterday we got the height and width, today it’s the full wireframe model with scale measurements. While we can’t confirm the authenticity, several details including that arcing base certainly dovetail nicely with the images found in the original FCC filing. It’s also a near-perfect match to that early reference design seen kicking around the Googleplex courtesy of Andy Rubin. While not obvious before, we can clearly see that the arc belongs to the handset’s rigid, non-sliding “chin” with lots of logos from HTC, T-Mobile, and Google fighting for visibility.

Notably, the right-most image contains measurements which can be applied to the rest of scale model as well. This confirms the 115 x 55-mm height and width shown by the FCC yesterday as well as a new, approximate, 16.35-mm depth after applying the calipers. That would make it fatter (as expected) than the 12.3-mm iPhone but skinnier (and a hair wider) than the 18.1-mm HTC Touch Pro and 17-mm Xperia X1. Not bad. Now let’s get to it boys, else there won’t be much left to announce in September.

Sanyo’s entry-level PLV-Z700 projector runs $1,995, shipping in October

After vaguely describing its new 1080p 3LCD-based PLV-Z700 projector as “entry-level”, Sanyo’s finally returned with a pricetag: $1,995. While that doesn’t exactly spell “cheap” to most, good luck finding another full HD projector that matches these specs with an MSRP starting south of two grand. 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,200 ANSI lumens and a variable lens designed to adjust to smaller rooms adds up to the perfect solution for those who want more pixels but less price, expect to find out more when it hits the stage at IFA 2008 in Berlin August 29, followed by store shelves worldwide in October, closing out its run with full specs after the break.

Filed under:

Here’s three more from Canon, the same, entry-level trio we saw leaked yesterday now official (where’s the E1?). The optical image stabilized set feature face detection and DIGIC 3 image processing. Let’s highlight the differences:
  • $300 SX110 IS: 9 megapixels, 10x zoom, 3-inch LCD
  • $250 A2000 IS: 10 megapixels, 6x zoom, 3-inch LCD
  • $200 A1000 IS: 10 megapixels, 4x zoom, 2.5-inch LCD

All three break loose at the end of this month and ship with a pair of AAs and 32MB SD card.

LG and Quanta settle 8-year long patent dispute

LG and Quanta have been going at it over patents for eight years now, with LG notably seeking an injunction against the importation of Quanta-built Apple, HP, Dell, and Sony laptops, and the Supreme Court ruling that LG wasn’t entitled to additional royalties, but it looks like the fight’s finally over — both sides say they’ve come to an agreement and will now negotiate royalty rates. No further details, but we’re told BMW sales near the offices of LG and Quanta’s law firms just skyrocketed.

OpenStomp Coyote-1 open-source guitar pedal now shipping

Filed under:

It’s only been a couple months since we first noticed that the OpenStomp Coyote-1 guitar pedal project had started development, but it looks like it’s ready to go — the web store is up and taking orders for US and Canadian customers. Your $350 gets you an 80MHz eight-core Propeller processor, a 16×2 line LCD screen, two footswitches, four knobs, an additional input / output jack, video out, an RJ11 expansion port, and a microUSB interface, all in a purple steel chassis. Not bad for the money, especially since the available source and fully-documented hardware means this thing should be taken in all sorts of interesting directions — anyone going to throw down for this bad boy?

ASUS Eee PC 900HD hits the FCC, reveals little

Filed under:

Hey, remember when the Eee PC was announced, and everyone got all hot and bothered, and we couldn’t wait for it to ship, and we couldn’t wait to get it into our hands? Then remember how ASUS created so many annoying variations that it became almost impossible to pay attention? Well, pay attention — the Eee PC 900HD has hit the FCC. Excited? Yeah, we thought so. Hit the read link to see what the label and undercarriage of your new supposedly-hard-drive-equipped netbook look like, and feel free to browse some SAR reports while you’re there. Of course, this reveals nothing about the actual hardware save for the fact that this bottom casing is different from previous models, so… that’s one thing.

Epoq EGP-PP01 KIRF projector phone now shipping

Filed under:

Sigh. We’re still stoked about phones with built-in projectors, but we’re not at all okay with the first commercially-available unit being the nasty Epoq EGP-PP01 iPhone clone — yet we’ve got to hand it to China King for being the first out the gate with a handset that’ll beam a 30-inch VGA image on the wall for two hours off the built-in battery. Of course, that doesn’t mean we think anyone should actually drop $550 on this uninspired piece, but if you’ve absolutely got to show off you witty texting banter to the entire bar, this is your only option.

PS.- Please don’t be that guy.
