Samsung was pretty boastful about its high-capacity SpinPoint N2 1.8-inch drives when they launched back in June of 2007, and now the company’s decided to show them off a bit — check out this hot new credit-card-sized external model in glossy black with a flip-out USB connector. Specs are the same as before — 4200rpm, 27MB/s read and 23MB/s write — but sadly the most important spec is that it’s China-only for now and pricing is in the stratosphere, with the 120GB version clocking in at RMB1999 ($293). Yeah, we’ll stick with saving our pennies for an SSD.

Well, here’s one we didn’t see coming: it seems that AT&T has wised up to the fact that Americans like their Symbian (well, at least a few of ‘em do, anyway) and wants to keep S60-equipped options on the table. Yes, granted, AT&T is a founding member of the Symbian Foundation, but the proof is in the pudding, and the last Nokia smartphone to land there was the N75 in May of last year — an eternity by mobile standards. More recently, the N75 grew up, got sexy, picked up some brushed metal, and emerged in Europe as the 6550; now, it’s surprisingly and unexpectedly been retooled as the 6650 for North American 3G spectrum. It’s got a 2.2-inch QVGA primary display, 160 x 128 secondary, 2-megapixel cam, AT&T Navigator (which means GPS), push-to-talk support, and HSDPA 850 / 1900 to compliment quadband EDGE. We don’t know exactly when it’s coming, but for S60 fans who cringe at the thought of having to blow several hundred on an unlocked set every time they want some fresh hardware, this should be welcome news.

Sure, the Nikon D90 isn’t going to be any huge surprise when it arrives at this point, but it looks like whatever ta-da moment Nikon had planned just got upstaged by USA Today, which is running its piece on the new cam just a little early, complete with quotes from Nikon’s senior technical manager. Nothing we don’t know about here: 12.1 megapixels, 3-inch Live View screen with HD video recording and a kit price of $1,299. Not bad — and that HD video mode certainly sounds intriguing. At least detailed specs will still be a tiny surprise, eh?

Dell’s Inspiron 13 made its Wal-Mart debut earlier this month, but now the budget back-to-school lappy is ready for you to trick it factory-style on Dell’s site. Nothing too crazy on the options list, and it looks like you’re stuck with some form of integrated graphics no matter what — but hey, when the most extravagant configuration maxes out at $1,149, you can’t be too picky.

For many of us, the mere thought of toting yet another device in our pocket, purse, or belt holster is truly disgusting, particularly when said device resembles a primitive BlackBerry hewn from solid stone and does literally nothing but send and receive email for twenty bucks a month. For others, though, the Peek might be just what the doctor ordered. Laptop Magazine took a quick look at the $100 email-only brick, declaring it “dead simple” to use — a good thing, considering its target demo — and finding its expansive soft-touch keyboard easy on the fingers. As ugly as it might be, it’ll be easy enough to hide; Laptop says users will have no issues tucking it into a pocket, owing in no small part to the fact that it’s a full 30 percent thinner than the iPhone 3G. Still, we’re going to like ‘em ten times better when they’re hacked to run Android, Doom, Maemo, or pretty much anything else that ends in “ux.”

So patent holding firm Klausner Technologies figures it has this whole litigation thing down to a T at this point, having already sued a who’s-who of companies having anything to do with visual voicemail in the past and ultimately coming away with a whole bunch of lucrative license agreements for its efforts (eleven, to be exact). Needless to say, any new company that tries to break into the game at this point is probably going to get treated with the same warm, fuzzy love, and Verizon and LG are experiencing that firsthand. Klausner has announced that it has filed suit against both companies in Texas federal court, presumably in response to Big Red’s recent launch of the refreshed Voyager featuring visual voicemail software on board. Given the track record Klausner has, guys, you might just want to cut to the chase here and pay up.

Wannabe Mac cloners Psystar hired itself some hotshot lawyers to defend against Apple’s lawsuit, and they’re not wasting any time earning their fees — as Psystar’s hinted in the past, it’s going to countersue Apple for antitrust violations and ask that the court declare the Leopard EULA void. That’s a pretty longshot argument, especially since EULAs have traditionally been upheld in California and Florida and we find it hard to believe a court would find a company with ten percent marketshare to be abusing a monopoly position, but we’ll see how everything goes down — this one is going to have some fireworks for sure.

Does having a handle instantly make something portable? Canon sure seems to think so, and it’s hoping the lug-ability of its new ES3 and ES30
Selphy printers will be enough to rope you into buying its special integrated ink and paper cartridges for years to come. For the most part, two printers are identical, although the ES3 does boast a slightly larger 3.5-inch LCD (as opposed to a 3-incher), as well as an added 1GB of internal memory, which Canon claims is a first for a compact photo printer. Otherwise, you can expect a 15-in-1 memory card reader on each, along with PictBridge support, and a number of frame, clip art and calendar functions to impress your friends with. If that’s got you convinced, you can pick up both of ‘em now, with the SELPHY ES3 running $199.99 and ES30 setting you back $149.99.
