S101 Eee PC netbook details leaked, but ASUS hasn’t yet confirmed

The S101 first surfaced a couple of months ago via some sneakily-shot photos of the slim brown netbook, however the site Hardwarezone published some details before being ordered down by ASUS.

Apparently due an official outing later this week, the Eee PC S101 is slightly slimmer, at 25mm thin (or 0.7-inches), and weighs just 1kg. Measuring 10.2-inches (the largest screen size of an Eee to date), it features an Intel Atom chip, and 1GB of RAM.

Keeping things on the lighter end of the scale, customers can choose to include up to 64GB of solid state drive, supported with 20GB of free online storage. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support are the norm, as are three USB ports, an Ethernet port, handy 4-in-1 memory card reader and VGA ports.

Sadly the webcam hasn't been improved on since the first Eee, as it's just 0.3-megapixels in size, however the trackpad is multi-touch and it runs on your choice of Windows XP or Linux.

Contrary to leaked photos, it won't be available in just brown, with champagne and graphite also being offered by the big ASUS brand. The Windows XP option will cost $699 and come with 16GB of storage, whereas the Linux version will be offered in 32GB and 64GB, prices starting at $799. That's yer news from the ASUS camp for this week - the S101 is all but confirmed.
